WHO WE ARE

Love + Community = Transformation

Agape Pamoja is a 100% volunteer -led nonprofit in Kansas City that walks with refugee families as they rebuild their lives.

“Agape” means love.

“Pamoja” means together

And that’s exactly how we serve - together.

We provide affordable housing, educational support, life skills, food, clothing, leadership development, and a community where families feel seen, known, and loved.

What Makes Us Different

We don’t just serve refugees - we partner with them.

Students, parents, and young adults help renovate homes, lead programs, and support their own community. This shared-leadership model accelerates thriving, builds confidence, and reduces the generations it often takes to adapt to life in the US.

The Impact

Families flourish.

Cultures unite.

A stronger community is built - pamoja.

WHAT WE DO

We provide safe homes. We build community. We change futures - together.

Agape Pamoja owns and operates 24 Blessing Homes in Kansas City - fully renovated, affordable homes where refugee families can finally breathe, rest, and rebuild. Rents are set at about half of market value, allowing families to save hundreds each month. And because we have no paid staff, 100% of rent goes right back into the community.

But housing is just the begining.

We walk with the community, families, and ultimately students through life skills, educational support, leadership development, and more - building real relationships that create long-term transformation.

Blessing Houses open the door.

Community changes the story.

WHY WE DO BLESSING HOUSES

Many refugee families in Kansas City - especially those from the Congo - arrive after decades of war and years spent in refugee camps. When they get here, they often end up in overcrowded, unsafe, and overpriced housing with little support.

With a median neighborhood income under $24,000 and barriers in language, culture, and access to services, families face an uphill battle just to find a stable place to live.

BLESSING HOUSES

Blessing Houses give families a safe home, fair rent, and a foundation to rebuild their lives with dignity.

Agape Pamoja Student Leader program

Helping students develop leadership skills is a key initiative for Agape Pamoja.  Qualifying Middle and High School Students from the refugee community commit to this special program that assists them with education, leadership growth, life skills, driving lessons and even travel opportunities!

Students part of this program meet criteria to qualify and maintain their Student Leadership status.  They are often academic forerunners in school as well as leaders for their sports team as well as in their community.  Students develop skills and run with opportunities to lead themselves and others well.

The idea that “serving is a lifestyle, not an event” is practiced.  While it is a requirement for students in this program to serve at least once a month with Agape Pamoja, most students serve numerous times each week!

There is something for everyone! Whether serving solo, with your family, or with your organization, Agape Pamoja provides an opportunity to make a difference in the Kansas City community.
